SPECIAL INTEREST / WORKING GROUPS
These groups meet to address the special concerns, interests and activities of congregation members. Participation
in a Special Interest Group is voluntary and does not serve as
fulfillment of the work required on a Holiday or Working Committee.
- Middle
East Working Group - In the fall and winter of 2002-03, interested
members of our congregation announced that they would begin meeting
under the name Israeli/Palestinian Working Group, or the KBIPWG. We
have since changed our name to be known as the KB Middle East Working
Group. Members of the group share these principles:
- That this is a "working group," open to all
members of the Congregation
- That the work of this goup is predicated on
a belief that both the Palestinian and Israeli people have equal human
rights as well as equal rights to self-determination, safety, and well
being.
- Interfaith Focus Group - The interfaith focus group
meets regularly to discuss the experiences of members who come from
other faith traditions, to support those members, and to facilitate the
inclusion of these issues and perspectives in the life of the
congregation.
- KB Brew Club - KB's brew club, Kahal B'rewra, gives members
an opportunity to socialize outside of business and services as well as
produce beer that the congregation can enjoy at special events.
While every batch is different, each is "Blessed by the human
spirit, but that doesn't make it Kosher."
- Summit Committee - Formed in the Spring of 2005, the Summit
Committee is charged with creating a strategic direction. They
held their first summit, open to all congregants, in June of that year,
then created a preliminary report in October 2005. The Summit
Committee then met regularly for 7 months and presented a draft
strategic direction plan to the congregation in April 2006. After
another summit in April 2006, the committee's final strategic direction
plan was approved and accepted by the Executive Committee in May 2006.
- KB Knitting Club - KB knitters get together about every six
weeks to share knitting tips and develop plans for out "Knitting for
Charity" efforts. Beginners are welcome; our experienced knitters
will show you how to make basic squares for our afghans. Share
your interest in knitting and do some good at the same time.
