We will begin at 9:15am with all congregation singing. Students then depart Sunday School while adults in a Humanistic Service followed by a program.
Join us for a presentation by Mitchell Silver, author of The Veterans of History: A Young Person’s History of the Jews. This book is a narrative of Jewish History from Biblical times to the present day, told from a Jewish cultural perspective. Written for young adults to enable young Jews to identify with and place themselves into the broad sweep of Jewish experience. It will be relevant and interesting for adults too.
“The Veterans of History has drawn favorable attention from Jewish educators. Said Dr. David Gordis, President Emeritus of Hebrew College: ‘...Mitchell Silver has written a rich, lively and informative brief history of the Jewish experience which can be read usefully by readers of all ages. Silver is a liberal and a secularist who clearly loves Jewish community and culture and cares deeply about all people. He is scrupulously objective in describing the triumphs and tragedies of Jewish history from its beginnings to the present, including religious, political, cultural and social dimensions. This is the work of a consummate ‘storyteller’ in the best sense.’” – Boston Workman’s Circle Press Release
