November 2, 2014 - 9:00am - 12:00pm
We will begin at 9:15am with all congregation singing. Students then depart for Sunday School while adults engage in a Humanistic Service followed by a program.
Program will feature Ben Lieberman's Banality of Never Again. Here are his words: "After the Holocaust it became common to declare “never again,” but the more I hear the lofty phrase the less I know what it means. It appears to mean that we should never have another Holocaust or genocide, goals we should support, but is that all? A true effort to make the words real would entail something far broader and more challenging than a commitment to stop genocide."
Ben Lieberman is Professor of History at Fitchburg State University. He has written on genocide in publications including Remaking Identities: God Nation and Race in World History, The Holocaust and Genocides in Europe, and Terrible Fate: Ethnic Cleansing in the Making of Modern Europe.
