Welcome our speaker, Leslie Meral Schick, a Newton resident, who travels regularly to Greece to aid refugees coming from Syria and other countries. Leslie brings food, clothing and many types of aid to refugees in Athens and Chios, Greece. She grew up in Turkey, the country her father and his parents fled to as Jewish refugees from Czechoslovakia in 1938. Her family moved to the United States in 1978 to escape growing unrest in Turkey. When she views the situation of refugees today, she says, “That entire experience is not foreign to me and I really feel like this could be me.” Read more about what Leslie does Here
