Workshops

Raising Our Voices in Song, led by Zach
for ages 0-120

Join us for a joyful and musical KB Day celebration, open to families and individuals of all ages —whether you love to sing, harmonize, or simply groove to music. We'll learn original music by our Music Director Zach Mayer to get everyone ready for the big 11:30 concert, lifting up soulful melodies that connect us to each other and to the heart of Jewish song—and maybe even some dancing! No experience needed—just come ready to sing and celebrate!

Israelism Movie Discussion, led by Gladys Maged and Linda Brion-Meisels
for ages 13+

One of the workshops will be a discussion of the issues raised in Israelism, an award-winning documentary about the American Jewish community’s changing relationship to Israel/Palestine.  There won’t be time during the workshop to show the movie, so we encourage you to see it in advance.  Easy ways to view it, including an online group viewing, are listed below.  However, you can participate in the workshop even if you haven’t seen the movie and you are welcome to view the movie even if you can’t attend the workshop.

The movie is 1 hour and 24 minutes long.  Here’s how to view it.
Online group viewing on Zoom on Friday, June 13, 8:00 – 9:30 pm.  Register here to get the Zoom link.     https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/3o2qI88XR_GpzfEVMZhaFw

If you would like to see it at another time, it is online at multiple places.  Google “how to watch Israelism movie” to find a free or low-cost way to watch it.

Pop Up Card Making, led by Jem Buchbinder-Johnson and Roz Patterson
for ages 5+

Learn how to make 3-D pop up cards for Father's Day, birthdays, and special occasions! See an example here. After learning the basics of how to make a card, people can experiment with their own designs, or use one of the templates provided. Jem and Roz will help elementary age kids with the activity, and crafty adults are also welcome to come make cards!

Trivia, led by Nancy Waters
for ages 13+

Calling all KB'ers to the First Ever Kahal B'Raira Day Trivia Contest!!! Bring your wits, savvy and knowledge to the KB Day Trivia Contest. Depending on turnout, we will either break out into teams or participate as individuals to discover who knows (or can guess? Emoji) the most about all things KB, all things Jewish, all things Secular Humanist! Don't miss this chance to grow your knowledge, learn things you never knew you wanted to know and have a giggle or two in the process.

Sunday Service Writing, led by Melinda Rothstein
for ages 13+

Writing a KB Community Gathering service is something any member can do! It can be simple and straightforward or can be infused with creativity. Either way, this workshop will lead you through the basics of service writing at KB using our template and liturgy, and participants will actually prepare the service that will be used later in the morning on KB day and also have the opportunity to lead this service! Please join us if you have ever been curious about service writing and presentation!

Pronouncing Hebrew and our Blessings, led by Nili Pearlmutter

Nature Scavenger Hunt, led by Noah and Ella Meshoulam
