Guest speaker: Joshua Foer
In September 2010, Union Square Park in New York City was transformed by Sukkah City, a radical architectural design competition reimagining the ancient Jewish ritual structure, the sukkah. Conceived by Joshua Foer and Roger Bennett, the project invited leading architects and designers from around the world to reimagine what a sukkah could be. Out of more than 600 submissions from 43 countries, a jury of architects, critics, and artists selected 12 winning designs that were constructed and exhibited for two days in Union Square. Sukkah City sparked widespread media coverage and was hailed as a landmark experiment in bringing ancient tradition into dialogue with modern creativity.
